Stapleton tied for 10th place as the best-selling, master-planned communities in the U.S. in 2012, according to an analysis by a well-known and respected real estate consulting firm based in California.Stapleton was the top-ranked community in Colorado, with 508 sales in 2012, according to the John Burns Real Estate Consulting firm, based in Irvine, Calif.
Highlands Ranch closely followed Stapleton with 507 sales last year. The Meadows in Castle Rank was ranked No. 37.
Highlands Ranch, developed by Shea Homes, showed the biggest year-over-year percentage change in sales, of the three Colorado communities, according to the firm. Highland Ranch showed a 94.3 percent jump in sales, selling 261 homes in 2011, when it was ranked 19th.
Stapleton, developed by Forest City Stapleton Inc., sold 379 homes in 2011, for a 34 percent year-over-year gain, according to John Burns. Stapleton was in 11th place in 2011. This year, it tied with Nocatee in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
At the Meadows, developed by Castle Rock Development Co., consumers bought 250 homes last year, compared with 150 in 2011, for a 66.7 percent gain. It was ranked 48th out of 50 in 2011.
?The national housing market is clearly showing signs of recovery and nowhere is the improvement more evident than in the performance of the nation?s largest master-planned communities,? according to John Burns.
The group surveyed about 100 communities to rank the top 50 across the U.S.
?Together, these communities totaled 22,806 new home sales in 2012, which is a 46 percent increase over the 15,599 new home sales in these communities in 2011,? according to the the John Burns group.
Stapleton?s home sales in 2012 were focused in its Central Park West and Bluff Lake neighborhoods.
Model homes are being built in Stapleton?s next new residential neighborhood, Conservatory Green, which will be composed of nearly 500 homes located north of Interstate 70 next to The Shops at Northfield Stapleton, Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge and Dick?s Sporting Goods Park.
