Penn State's football season is over, but the penalties?against university?from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal haven't stopped.
As per the school's agreement with the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Penn State?said today that it will?make its first of five annual payments against a $60 million fine on Dec. 20.
The NCAA said the money will be transferred into a money market account and held while a task force works out guidelines for distribution of grants and other proceeds from an endowment established with the funds.
The agreement stated that all proceeds from the $60 million fine shall be used to combat child sex abuse and / or help victims.
The fine is part of a multi-layered punishment for a perceived breakdowns in institutional control over the Nittany Lions that, according to one internal investigation, created a culture where Sandusky could repeatedly prey on children.
The NCAA penalties also include?a four-year ban on post-season games and a reduction in football scholarships.
