NBA ? Kanter will make first start of career.
The Utah Jazz will be without Al Jefferson and Derrick Favors because of injuries on Friday night, when they close a three-game home stand against Toronto.
Second-year center Enes Kanter will start for Jefferson, Utah?s leading scorer who is sidelined with back spasms.
Meanwhile, Favors will miss his fourth straight game because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Kanter will make the first start of his NBA career.
"He?s been chomping at the bit for an opportunity to get more time on the floor," coach Tyrone Corbin said. "It should be exciting and I think he is. I?m excited for him. We?re looking forward to him having a great game."
Because of the injuries, Kanter is the only Jazz player available against Toronto who is taller than 6-foot-9.
Asked about playing small ball against Toronto, Corbin said, "It?s different for us because we don?t do it a lot. ? But the guys have been very, very responsive to making adjustments and tonight we might have to make more than usual."
Corbin plans to use Jeremy Evans as the third member of the Jazz?s big-man rotation. He will join Kanter and veteran forward Paul Millsap.
Beyond those three, Marvin Williams will slide from small forward to power forward.
"It?s still basketball," Corbin said. "We?ll put guys in position to have a chance to be successful."
