Burglar steals wedding band, gifts from Portland couple

PORTLAND, Ore. ? Just weeks before a Portland couple was set to get married, a burglar broke into their house and stole the bride?s wedding band and several wedding gifts.

The burglar broke into the house in Southeast Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood sometime between 8 and 10:30 p.m. on Monday evening, according to Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.

He or she stole wedding gifts, including cash and gift cards, and the bride?s wedding band, Simpson said. The couple was planning to get married in two weeks.

Officers showed up shortly after 11 p.m. when the groom returned from work and found what had happened. They said the burglar removed a pane of glass and entered through an attached garage.

Officers also found a backyard gate ajar that the homeowner said was typically closed.

Burglary detectives are investigating and asking for anyone with information to provide tips to CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.

The Portland Police Bureau also has a website with tips to prevent burglaries in your home.
